Daphnia for fish food

Perhaps the most popular fish food is daphnia, a genus of branchous crustaceans. Any aquarist, even a beginner, should be familiar with these small arthropods. At any bird market, you can easily find such crustaceans at any time of the year.

Such widespread distribution is most likely due to the versatility of this fish food. Daphnia is suitable for most species of both aquarium and pond ornamental fish. In addition, amphibians (frogs), reptiles (most often small turtles), and birds can be baited with branchous crustaceans.

As a full-fledged fish food, daphnia is highly recommended to be given to young and small-sized fish (for example, such as neon, molly, guppy and others).

The use of daphnia as fish food is very affordable and convenient - often the bait is sold in dried form (especially in winter). It can be purchased both in packages and by weight. The storage conditions for dried food are simple - it is unacceptable that moisture gets on it. As a live fish food, daphnia is also useful to regularly add to the diet of aquarium residents. Before feeding, it is necessary to thoroughly rinse the crustaceans with water in a net. There are fish that need plant-based food. Branchous crustaceans are very suitable for them, since their stomachs usually contain a large amount of undigested plant plankton.

Daphnia is widespread in water bodies all over the world. The most common are: moina (red crustaceans), the smallest, measuring up to 2 millimeters; pulex - the average size of 3 millimeters; and magna - up to 6 millimeters. In appearance, these branchous crustaceans are almost transparent, and their color may vary depending on the level of hemoglobin in the blood. It may seem surprising that little daphnia have a heart. Their bodies are covered with a chitinous shell and slightly compressed from the sides. Usually, a properly developed branchous crustacean has only one eye. Daphnia feed on ciliates, bacteria, and plant plankton. They draw food into their mouths with the help of a stream of water, which they create with their legs.

It's no secret that the key to the health of the inhabitants of a home aquarium is not only regular water changes and a properly selected liter, but also a balanced healthy food for fish. Daphnia as the main food source is ideal for them. https://22bet-casino.cz/
